Dental Care Services for Pets

At West Brant Animal Hospital, we are committed to working with you to keep your pet’s teeth, mouth and gums as healthy as possible. As you may already know, even the most minor problems in your pet’s dental health can cause discomfort, pain and lead to more serious medical issues in other parts of their bodies. Please contact our team with any questions you may have about your furry friend’s dental well-being and to schedule your next appointment.

Why is it important to care for my cat’s/dog’s/pet’s teeth?

Like humans, our furry friends need to have constant dental care. In fact, dental health issues are some of the most common and significant problems for companion animals all over the world. It’s an often overlooked aspect of pet care. Fortunately, most of the problems that pets can develop are easily preventable with proper at-home and in-clinic care. Plaque, gingivitis and periodontitis are some of the dental health problems that pets can develop if their teeth are neglected.

How can I prevent plaque, tartar and other dental problems in my dog/cat/pet?

The best course of action is to start and maintain a dental hygiene routine. We recommend that you brush your pet’s teeth once a day (twice per day is the ideal). It may be challenging at first, but once your pet becomes used to it, toothbrushing will become another normal part of their daily life. They may even begin to enjoy and look forward to it. Please remember to use brushed and toothpaste specifically designed for pets, as those for humans can be harmful to them. In addition, you can give your pet certified treats with ingredients designed to improve their oral health. Although they enjoy playing with them, you should also avoid certain toys, treats and objects that can damage your pet’s teeth. These include:

  • Real bones
  • Cow hooves
  • Pig’s ears
  • Tennis balls
