Nathan presented to the hospital due to severe colon constipation. Nathan had been on medication for constipation for several months prior to presentation. Due to the inability of the medication to help Nathan any longer, he required surgery. Nathan underwent a subtotal colectomy, a complicated and risky surgery in which his colon was removed. Nathan's surgery was very successful and has since recovered wonderfully and is doing well. Update as of March 2008 - Nathan continues to do well and has learned to adapt to no longer having a colon. His owners keep a close eye on him and he rarely has complications as a result of the procedure.
