Bladder Stones

Barney, a 12 year old Bichon, was admitted to the hospital for difficulty urinating. Upon examination Barney was found to have an obstruction of the urinary tract which made it difficult to void his bladder. Without treatment Barney could have become very ill. An xray was taken and Barney was found to have several bladder stones and one stone in his urethra. Barney was taken to surgery to have the stones removed from his urinary tract. Since surgery, Barney has recovered very well. He will require a special diet in the future to prevent further stone formation. Urinary blockage is a common condition, especially in male neutered cats and several canine breeds including schnauzers and Dalmatians.
